Thursday. It is understood tint the Government having decided that the Telegraph officials should received the increases to their salaries, which were withheld for a period, have also decided that all civil servauts shall receive in a lump sum the increment due on their salaries since the beginning of the financial year.
It is reported that Captain Carey, of the Taupo, has been appointed to the llotoiua, and that Captain Malcolm of the Wanaka, is to take command of the Taupo. The captain who has had charge of the Eotorua is to be transferred to the Taranaki.
A Gazette just published gives Dr Hector's report on a gold-bearing reef at Queen Charlotte's Sound, and the Phoenix mine, Collingwood. : One sample in the forjoer yielded 1-lozs 20dwts per ton ; another 3*16; specimens from the latter yielded 227 per ton.
