Afc a meeting held last night in the Criterion Hotel, Paeroa, it was resolved that St. Patrick's Day should be celebrated by a race meeting, to be held on Monday the 18th March pros. Messrs J. H. Mahoney and H. D. Johnson were appointed as Hon. Treasurer and Secretary respcctirely, and the following were elected as the Executive Committee, namely :—Messrs F. Lipsey, J. Phillips,

j junr., P. Bennett, J. McGeehan, Takerei te Putu, Haora Tareranui, and J. M. Coote, with the Hon. Trcnsurcr and Secretary as members ex-oflieio. The followuij; appointments were also made :— j Judge, Mr Albert Moore; Starter, Mr D. ' Snorigrass, sent*. ; Clerks of the Course, Messrs T. Suodgrass and 11. Frauklyn; Handicappers, Messrs T. Jackson and T. '-'Oorbett; Clark of Scales and Standards, Mr J. Phill ps, junr. The Hon Secretary was instructed to issue subscription lists as quickly as possible to each member of Committee, and to Messrs E. M. Corbett, J. Moore, T. Kncebone (Waitekauri), hi. C. Wick (Owharoa), M. Hay man (Mackaytown), M. G. Power (Paeroa), and It. Kelly (Hikutaia). The first meeting of the Executive Committee was fixed for 8 p.m., on Monday the 25th instant, at the Criterion Hotel, Paeroa. Votes of thanks to the Chairman (Mr F. Lipscy), the Hon. Secretary, and Messrs Cassrels and Bennett brought the proceedings to a close. I regret very much to inform you that the wife of Mr Thomas Shaw (Foreman of Works in this district) died yesterday afternoon after a long illness. Owing to the want of a cemetery here her remains will have to be conveyed to the Thames for sepulture.
