If a c?t doth meet a cat upon a pardon wall, and if a cat doth greet a cat, Oh! need they both to cquall ? Every Tommy has his Tabby waiting on. the wall, and yci he welcomes her approach by an unearthly yawl; rvA if a kitten wish to coarfc upen the wall, whf doa't he sit and sweetly smile, and not str.nd up and bawl, and lift his precious back up high, and show his teeth p.ni mcr.n, as if 'twere colic more than love that made the feller groan. A very ugly gentleman was requested by a beautiful woman to accompany her to. a painter's studio, where, having whispered a few words to the artist, she left him with a promise of presently coming back. The gentleman asked the artist what ho was wanted for. " I thought you knew, sir," replied the painter, "that I am taking that lady's portrait in the character of a saint being tempted by the devil, and she wishes you to be good enough to sit for the Tempter."
