The following report has been received from the mine manager ;—Waitekauri, February 4th, 1878—To the Director* of the Young New Zealand Goldmining Comptnjr.—Gentleman,—ld submitting
my report I beg to inform you there is still a large body of crushing dirt showing in the face of the workings, and I see gold occasionally in the Rtone. There are 86 tons of quartz sent to the battery, and about 60 tons crushed. I think it is showing up for about loz to the ton. I intend keeping the eight head going until the latter part of the week. 1 will then have to stop crushing for a short time to do certain work that is necessary to be done in the mine. If you think proper for me to clean up and retort as soon as I stop crushing, let me know.—l am gentle* men, your obedient servant, Thomas Knebwonk, Mine Manager. The gold resulting from the late crush* ing was received by steamer today it amounted to 72 ounces lGdwti.
