Play wai resumed at half-past twelve, Bobinson and Mumford beginning the Auckland batting to the bowling of Kendall and Spofforth. The placing of the field was the same an before. Mumford, by fours, twos, and a couple of singles got double figures in the first twenty minutes,' Wood getting a nice two to leg off Kendall. Boyle took the ball from the left-hander. The same batsman followed this up by a good leg hit for two off Spofforth, and he also got a good two.in the slips which was turned into a single by short one (P) then had bye at wicket In Spofforth's next Swanson> who had been some time at the wicket for one, was clean bowled—3-28-1. Xsftttt. 3.26 p.m. Auckland, five wickets for thirty-eight. An adjournment has taken place for lunch. It has been raining in torrents. Tates received a nasty hit on the elbow by a ball from Spofforth.
