WAITEKAURI COMPANY.

The following is the mine aod bttterj manager's weekly report:—Waitekanri, February 4th, 1878.—The Director! Waitekauri G.M.Co. Gentlemen,-I have to report for your information that during the week ending the 2nd instant there h;s occurred no change in the mine calling for special comment; The stone obtained has been taken trom the stopes in No. 9 and 4 blocks, and the surface workings of the Golden Point portion of the mine. Stoping in the No. 2 hai been temporarily discontinued to allow of a rise being pat through to the Leahy level for the purpose of filling. In all probability this will be completed by tomorrow. In the progress of the work gold his been eccasionally met with, which fact strengthens me in the opinion I have hitherto held, that it will be found to be the continuation of the No. 2 run. And I mar further add that the reef in the south end of No. 3 block presents a thickn£M*of 20 feet, showing a little gold throughout the whole of its width. The contractors in the 90 feet and Queen levels have made better progress during the last fortnight, the former having driven 65 feet and the latter 47 feet. The country improves and is looking promising. At the battery crashing has been continuous, the average number of stamps working being thirtyfour. Of these six have been employed on Young New Zealand quarts, and the remainder on that of the Waitekauri Company, which reduced forty-five tons for the former and two hundred and eight tons for the latter, making a total of two hundred and seventy-three tons, which also represents the numberconveyed to battery. The yield of amalgam for the Waitekauri Company from plates, ripples and berdans has bfsen 217 ounces.—l am, &C, E. M. COBSBTT.
