An application has been made to the Chief Justice for a mandamus calling on the assistant registrar of the County Court to show cause why he should not issue summonses.
The alleged reason of the Registrar's refusal is that the Government directed him not to issue more summonses.
The Chief Justice granted the rule. The Government immediately dismissed all deputy registrars. The captain and crew of the missionary, schooner Bertha, some of whom are experienced diggers, report a large extent of auriferous country with gold-bearing quartz in New Guinea.* James Cunningham has been executed for the murder of Frank Steiuhrecker.
