HARBOR BOARD ELECTION.

(To the Editor of the Erening Star.)

Sib, —I see by your pages that Mr Butt seeks to be elected to a seat in the Harbor Board. I thick it would be well for elector! to enquire bow he hat fulfilled his duties as a Councillor in the Borough, and if his actions were disinterested throughout, and if he has been, always found in his place doing his duty to the burgesses. Personally. I almost forgot he was a Councillor, haling missed his name for a considerable time from your fortnightly reports «f the Council's proceedings until lately, when I saw his name figuring in support of a resolution in the forenoon, and in the afternoon of the same day supporting another diametrically opposed to the first. And further, I hare been informed that when he does find a spare erening to attend to the interests of the Borough) he either attends late or takes bis departure early from the deliberations of the said Council. It would be well, I say, for the electors to ask themselves has Mr Butt Hone his duty to the electors of the Borough; and if not, is he likely to do his duty to those of the Harbour Board, and the commercial and best interests of the Thames district. I think, sir, the present 1 members of the Board hare worked well during the past year. They hare had an up hill fight, but they hare persistency com bat ted all obstacles until they hare at last obtained the long and much talked of foreshore. Other benefits are likely to arise from their perserering efforts, if we would but gire them opportunity, and leare well alone, by extending their term of office for another year.—l am, Ac, Commercial. Thames, 21st January, 1878.
