ALBURNIA.
The Sons of Freedom reef, at the level at foot of No. 1 winze, bears an improved appearance, as a little gold is discernable. It is about 18 inches thick, and there appears to be a strong likelihood that it will improve going west. In the west drive in intermediate level the reef is about 3 feet thick, and shows good gold. In the west drive, in Whau level, the lode is 18 inches thick and shows gold freely. In the east drive in both this and jthe lower level, the reef is of low value. The stopes are not very rich, but the stone is payable. The stopes in Carpenter's section are looking well, and the lode is showing gold freely. There is now about 1400lbs of specimens and picked stone on hand, which, will be crushed before the end of the month. I may mention that the* crushing at the Herald is looking well.
