Earl Carnarvon, speaking to a deputation of Cape colonists, said England was unprepared to bolster Turkish interests purely as such. England hid not offered mediation as supposed, by actual orertures for peace. *,■ The Turks hold Sophia. The Russians hare advanced to between Ikhman defile and Sophia, cutting off the retreat to Adrianoplc. ■''■ - The Turks propose an armistice on the basis that each party returns whatever territory is gained. It is reported that the Feuian prisoners will shortly be released.
