I was laid up for several months with rheumatic gout, and confined to my bed for weeks; in fact, even when in bed I could not move without assistance. My friends had almost given up all hope of recovery, and I was told that if I ever got better I should be paralysed in my right side. I was under treatment for weeks, and tried all known remedies, but got little or no relief.
