ACCIDENT TO SHARDLOW.
(To the Editor of the Evening^Stab.) Sib, —As it appears the public have an idea that I was in some way the cause of the accident to Mr .Shardlow on Saturday last, I conceire it to. be a duty to myself to lay the facts, as far as I am concerned, before the public in- order that they may judge of the persecution I have met with from him. The house I occupy adjoins Shardlow's, and I had also an allotment adjoining, fronting the road and Shardlow's house. On Saturday last I relinquished the allotment to Mr Graham, who then relet the same to Shardlow with the understanding that the fences around such allotment were my property. On Shardlow taking the allotment he was; told by Mr Graham that I was to be allowed plenty of time to remove my fences. I immediately set to work, and up to dark had taken down two sides,, leaving one side, which I intended to finish on Monday morning. About 5 o'clock, just as I was taking my tools away, Shardlow put in an appearance and began using abusive language to me; I left to avoid any dispute with him; he then started to pull the side of the fence I had left down, and from the violence used by him the fence fell on him breaking his leg, the post being split by the violence he used. At the interview Shardlow had with Mr Graham at his office and in my presence, he said I could not pay 20s in the" £, using at the same time abusive language. This man has also at various times to Messrs Head and Thompson repeated the same, .advising them not to supply me with timber. To show the further annoyances I have met with I may say that the children have been taught to insult me in every possible way by putting their fingers to their noses and throwing stones on the roof of my house. It is not to myself alone that this system of annoyance has been adopted, but another neighbor has been and if obliged to suffer likewise or even worse.—»I am, &c, ROBEBT THOMBON, Cabinetmaker.
