MOANATAIRI.

I visited, the mine this morning. On reaching the SO feet level I was informed that the contractors at the bottom level . are making first-rate progress,. On going down the No. 9,winze I found that sinking is steadily proceeding' on 7 lh<J<top\ of I the slide, the winze being down about 45 | 'feet. Although I could not see" the slightest of gold in the face, tHe appearance of the reef was slightly better than it was in the early part of the week, ..there being a-fair quantity of mineral "showing, and -the'quartz looks' better. Tnere is no change in the course of the-slide. The winze is now ail securely timbered. In the western drive the appearance of the reef is, about the "same, but still there is no gold showing. The country;; is flight, sandstone,,., and. l| good working ground. Pretty good progress is being made with the new winze, notwithstanding the: rather hard nature of the'country.-"3?fie s eastern drive through the main slide is going ajicad as .usual. • Occasionally small parcels of specimens are obtained from Wallis' and Heidi's reef.*- At the battery, the.re is nothing fresh.
