Visit of H.M.'s S. Sappho.
The sloop of war Sappho arrived off Tararu to-day, between three and four o'clock. She was expected to arrive yesterday, but did not leave Auckland, it having beea decided ito defer .. ihe visit for a day. The vessel lert Auckland at half past nine o'clock to-day, we believe, but we received no intimation from the Press Agent to that effect, and the hour at which she arrived precludes us from giving any report. The visit was expected, and bunting was displayed in several parts of the town in honor of the event. The Borough Council held a meeting this mor-ing to consider what could be done to "or.certain the expected visitors, but the meeting was private and the delerciiaation arrived at ail not transpir? further than that it was decided the Mayor and some of his Councillors should pay a visit to Capta'n.DigUy and learn his intentions, the probable length of his stay here, &c. A citizens' ball is talked about, and other suggestions have been made. Probably by c tomorrow some definite programme w":'l have been ai'rauged.
