RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT

THIS DAY. - r (Before W. Eraser, Esq., R.M.) DBUNKEKUTESS. One offender—a young- man of. about 21—-was charged with having been drunk and incapable in Grey street, Shortland. Defendant pleaded guilty to the charge, but asked His Worship to let him off. It was the first time, he said, that he had been found guilty of drunkenness, and if he was allowed to go he would leave for the bush to-day. Defendant was let off. BREACH OF THE LICENSING- ACT. Charles Curtis was charged that he, being the holder of a publican's, license, did unlawfully- suffer alcoholic liquor to be drank in his licensed house known as the Pacific Hotel, after the legal hoars for closing the same. Mr Macdonald appeared .for the,,defendant and said that although c the* hotel |had been practically closed,'two men, who hadjustleft shift, had been served with drink. Mrßullen said that on the n'ght of the 9th inst. two men had been found in ;the bar of the Pacific, drinking, after the ; proper time for closing. The bar at the time was lighted up. Fined 20s and costs. This was all the business.
