MOANATAIRI.

In company with the manager I visited the mine to-day/.We first went to the bottom of the shaft to have a look at the workings on the 150 feet level. Owing to the "kindly" nature of the, country the south-east crosi-cut has already been extended a distance of 14: feet, which, however, has not yet been timbered or squared off. .It must not be supposed, however, that the level is going to be extended at this rate, as in fact there is a harder belt of country now coming-in at the face. The north-west cross-cut has not yet been started, but will be during the course of the week. On reaching the 80 feet level we went to the winze from the All .Nations drive, • arid I; found that as it has 4*now reached the depth of 68 feet, which is -a depth great enough for its being cut when the 150 feet level is extended far enough in that direction. We then went down the No. 9 winze and I found thkt the men are employed timbering. I had a look at the reef in the bottom of the winze, and must say that working on it has not improved its appearance at least. I did not see any gold either in the face or in some stuff which had been broken out on Saturday, and the manager informed me that he had not seen any during the last few days. There was not much of a show of mineral either. The lode is getting inullocky and is not so compact as it was a few days ago. Theistopes on the No. 9 reef are turning out payable crushing dirt along the whole range. In the western drivesome more of the reef has been broken down, and although the quartz has a healthy appearance no gold is to be seen. The sinking of the winze on the "No. 9 reef, at a point about 70 feet to the west of the No. 9 winze, has been started. The cross lode has junctioned with the No. 9 reef, and a little gold, though not much to speak of, was got at the junction. There is nothing particular to report from Wallis' or Heldt's, stoping being proceeding as usual.

Dunn and party completed their crushing to-day for the. moderate return of 6ozsi melted gold. ' . . ■
