PIAKO.

The following is a report from the manager of the Piako Goldmining Company : —" I have the honor to report the quantity of amalgam obtained from last week's crushing to be 4040z5. This is an, increase on any previous week, and, judging from the gold seen underground, and the general appearance of the. reef* there is a fair promise for a similar yield this week. The most noticeable feature has been in connection with the scuth stope, where gold baa been frequently seen, and some 2001bs stone picked out, some of which shows gold pretty freely. We hare just found (1 p.m.) some 2Olbs really good stone from the north drive; this, I think, is the best stone seen at this level. The gold is seen in a hard vein of quartz in the centre of the reef. The mine geae.-^ rally looks as well as at any time Since we opened the No. 7 level. The drives north and south show strong, solid reefs from 10 to 12 feet thick. At the present moment we are filling up the north and south stopes, as they have been worked until the ground on either side is getting weak, and requires supporting. Ther_e is no change to report from the B;rd-in-Hand reef. Very good progress is being made with sinking and rising the old ; Bird-in-Hatid shaft.—l am, sir, your obedient servant, S. E. Bichaeds.— June 12, 1877."
