This day. The cutter Dawn from the Manukau, timber laden, went on the north spit when entering Waitara. There was a very heavy sea, and it was blowing fresh when her mainsail carried away, and she went ashore. She has sprung a leak. Later. The Captain (native) has abandoned the Dawn. On running down she put into !°aglan through stress of weather. She attempted to cross the Waitara bar wita a stormsail only. It was ebb tide with a strong fresh. The Captain finding s! could not fetch sufficiently to windwa: . when in the break, put the helm ha cl ? p p.nd beached her half a mile to the nci-i oi the bar. She was owned by native", ■ ~2l was uninsured. The wreck will be told to-day.
