WORKING THE MOANATAIRI MINE.
(To the Editor of the Evening Stab.) Sib,—A.local in the New Zealand Herald, copied in this morning's Adver* tiser, endeavours to lead the public to believe it is the wish of the shareholders y in the Moanatairi to root out every knowEr rich bit of stone from the mine—no matter how. Mr Editor, I was under the impression when five gentlemen (?) were elected directors of the company, they were supposed to have honesty of purpose enough to see the mine worked in a beneficial manner to all concerned, affd not made subservient to the interests of a few. It is evident to every one conversant with the facts, that the directors are making ducks and drakes of the company's property to serve their own and friends' interest. The low state of the commercial morality of Auckland is proverbial. The want of confidence in the management of the mines of the Thames is the chief drawback to investment. Is the vaccillating conduct of the Moanatairi directors calculated to restore confidence ? If the mine was worked honestly every one might invest capitalbe it much or little—without fear of being robbed, which at present is not the case. —I am, &c, Shabehoideb. Grnhamstown, June 14th, '77.
