DUNEDIN.

This day. Thomas Walker gave a public lecture last night. The attendance was large and the lecture of an inferior character, and the general opinion is that there is no truth in Walker's pretentious to supernatural inspiration. The debate on the dock question has now assumed a phase of whether or not the docks will be so placed as to give value to Mr Proudfoot's speculation in purchasing a large block of

land from the late Provincial Government. Proudfoot, as contractor for dredging and rock walling, required Is per cubic yard extra to movo the docks according to the former plan of Walters', on the ground of a proposal involving a further haulage than the original plan, but now agrees for a much further haulage and also consents to leave the roclrwalling already laid down if required. By this latter plan the Board will be deprived of the most valuable portion of its endowment and immensely enhance the value of Proudfoot's previous speculation. There are now in the Dunedin Lunatic Asylum no less than 235 patients, of whom 72 are females.
