MOANATAIRI.

I paid a visit to the mine this morning. On reaching the bottom of the shaft I was informed that the construction of the chamber is now nearly completed, there being three sets of timber already in, and the manager expects that the work will be completed by to-morrow, after which the flatsheets will be fixed, and then the extension of the levels will be commenced. On going down the winze I found that since my lest visit, which was on Monday, a. large hole had been made on the ledge of the reef stripped, as besides other stuff' 3cvrt, of picked stone had been taken out yesterday. I examined the face, and saw 'gold in several places, especially in the western end where there were several splats visible. The ground in th* bottom is soft, but whateffect.it will have on the reef will not be known till the reef is in unison with the floor. At the time of my visit no stuff had been broken down, but the men were preparing a hole. No quartz has yet been broken in the reef in the western drive, and there is nothing fresh to report from any other part of the. mine. At the battery things are looking well. The result of yesterday's cleaning . up of the single stamper gave near 100 ounces of amalgam, while this motfM ing's cleaning up gave a result which is probably worth not far short of 2COozsi~' of gold. Besides the 30 head employed " by the company, Cneebone and party and i Melnany and party are employing five head each. The following is a copy of yesterday's telegram :—" 3cwt. picked stone from new winze. Gold still showing. 97ozs amalgam from single stamper. No other change. — Robert <ohkr»"-" The following is a copy of to-day's buU letin:—" Result from winze stuff broken put yesterday, 580ozs amalgam. Crushing still continues. Gold showing freely in winze.—Robert Comeb."
