CITY OF LONDON.
The tenders for sinking the shaft being submitted to the directors at Auckland they accepted that of Dunstone and party, the price being £3 2s per foot. This was the lowest of the four tenders, and the highest was £3 10s, so that the difference is not great. The present low level is 470 feet from the surface, and it is intended to open out the next level at a depth of 540 feet, which will give 70Teet of good backs between the two levels. The contractors commenced work yesterday morning, and the ground appears to be pretty good. The water has not yet drained out of the winze in the crossreef, and consequently operations have not been resumed there.
Butterworth and party have started winding quarlz, and will be crushing as soon as they have their parcel ready.
