MOANATAIRI.
The following is a copy of the manager's weekly report to the directors :—" 80 feet level. No. 9 reef. The diive east from the bottom of the new winze is extended 14 feet, and has intersected the main slide, completely dislocating Ibe reef. A rich deposit of gold made on the clay for four feet long, but the roof of the drive is not looking so well. "I think this is the shot of gold coming down from the floor of 80 feet level; driving from the winze is nowsuspended, it being all in the slide. The winze is down 5 feet below this level; soft country and clay are now making in the bottom, but none of the reef has been broken since sinking was resumed. In the 80 feet level west on same reef I am cutting a winze chamber 61 feet west from cross-cut for sinking No. 2 winze to communicate with 150 feet level, keeping to the seaward side of the slide until reaching new level; while doing this work driving west has been suspended for a few days, and no reef has been broken in the drive since last report. In the drive east from the cross-cut 56 feet has been driven into the main slide from the point of intersection. The country in the face is now much broken, but free from water. I estimate that a further distance of 20 j or 30 feet will reach through the slide. The stopes in back of level are good, payable stuff, and the stopes eastward are now. lengthening out as worked over the slide. Driving east on Heldt's reef has been suspended, through striking the slide. Wallis's and the cross-leader occasionally show, gold freely, otherwise there is no change. North-west crosscut: The winze being sunk upon the All Nations leader is down 50 feet below the 80 feet level, and is going through payable stuff \\ feet thick. There is no change in stopes on !Nos. 1 and three reefs. Good progress is being made in cutting the chamber for tbe 150----feet level, guides, ladders, and two sets of timber having been fixed. All this work will.be completed during the coming week, and the cross-cut started without delay. During the past fortnight 450 ton's of quartz have been clashed, also 17cw.t of specimens, and the total result is 3,2000zs retorted gold. The mine throughout is now looking very well. In conclusion, I may say that the well-known slide striking through the company's ground is considerably shortening the length of reefs on the seaward side, but I believe that by extending cross-cuts the reefs will again be picked up on the eastward side of the slide. The machinery is all in good working order.-—Robeet Comeb, manager."
