There" Is one' '^hollering woman " in" every stree't—a'-iwon?im' rwho'"ndTer goes after anybody, bat always calls across (he street; who^ never ~lookjf fox her children, but rushes to the front gate and shrieks for tkemtuntil/ in the pauses of her shoot- > ings, she hears them answering from the room she has just left. Every street has a '-hollering woman." ' No street" has more. For as soon as two "hollering, women " are thrown by pitiless fate upon one street -the neighbors vacate and emigrate -until rents come dowiv;tor, as .it oftener happens, one of the " hollering women " pulls up stakes .and goes else* where, for they cannot brook opposition. The " hollering, woman;'' > jcerie&lfyl manages to keep her street in' aWively state of, elocutitnary, excitement, and if yoii happen to: live within understanding distance your diurnal serenade is something like this—"Tom^myT"Tom-mee! Tom-my! Oh, Tom! you Tom I Come right along'here and" break !?us" sbintt of ithis dry wood, or I'll break your back! M-ary! You Marreef You get right down .off that tree-box this mini*,, you great torn-boy, or I'll skin you' within «& inch of your life. Mar-ec !' Oh', Miss^" Finkhard;i MissEinkhard! Oh-hh,Miss Finkhard! Won't you tell your milkman whence comes to stop at my gate 2 Mine come this, morning before wo Were up. E-ras-mus ! Erasmus!■ ': Ee-ertw-mus! E-e-e-ras-mus 1 Come right ,/iome and take this pail of molasses back; to the grocery, and tell' him if he can't send what I ordered 1 1\ don't want any! E-ras-mus, I say! Oh, Miss B aralson ! how's : the- baby's me?* sles? Did you try. the teal sent over last night ? . Who 'cut your hew .polonaise? Mar-ee!' Mary!' Where's Erne* line gone to ? . I'd like to know ? Didn't I tell jbu not to let her get out of ypur sight a minit? Now, you hunt her'-up'* and bring her Tight home * Good morning,' - Miss Barnaby! Did you know there was burglars over to Throopses- last, night P Got in at the kitchen winder and took a pair of JM>Throop's panto/with, a- dollars and a-half in 'em, and Mrs Throop's big jet breast-pin.! .Where you; going r Tommy I Tom-mee ! The serenade continues at random all day long, and is familiar to everyone who batf : lived within gunshot of a "hollering. womca/'-^-Amerioan paper." "
