' Thursday. The City Council this afternoon, after a long discussion on the report of the committee re dismissal of Corporation officials, referred the matter back to a committee of the whole Council. The question of the adoption of Climie's drainage scheme was postponed till next meetinp, also the motion in reference to the reclamation of le Aro foreshore.

A return lately prepared shows the progress of the city of Wellington during the past seven or eight years. As regards the value of rateable property in 1870-71, which was £72,125, it now stands at £176,040.
