A priest named the Abbd Beanjard has been tried in the Paris Assizs Court for assaults on two girls under thirteen. The presiding Judge Vaney ordered the proceedings to take place with closed doors, and therefore no report of the evidence and pleadings is legal. Not even barristers in their robes were admitted. '.The result was the conviction of the priest and a sentence of fifteen years hard labor. Sister St. Leon seems to find imitators in applying the actual cautery to rebellious pupils. A nun schoolmistress in the AlHer is accused of having forced a little girl, for playing.in class, to kiss a red-liot shovel. The child's lips, cheek, and chin were blistered. —Daily News.
