THE WEEK.
The principal event of the week has been the improvement in the Moaoatairi. The drive from the foot of the winze having cut the old run of gold, the shares have consequently increased in value, but not to the extent expected. The annual meeting of the company was held at Auckland about the middle of the week, and a healthy balance sheet was presented for the edification of the shareholders. The Alburnia has been attracting considerable attention, and the yield of the crushings from that mine contributes largely to the tolal of the gold returns below. Several of the tribute parties are doing very well,'.and the yields bid fair soon to equal those from Barclay's and Allen's sections last year! Driving on the reefs recently discovered at the 640 feet level of the Pumping Association shaft- has been, commenced by the Kuranui Hill United, and great interest is evinced in these operations, as it is generally expected that if payable ' gold is found there it will be more lasting from the depth. The general mining news, which has been/treated at length in the Mining Reporter's column day by day, calls for no particular'comment.
