THE MOANATAIRI MINE.
(To the Editor of the Evening Stat%) Sjb,— The letter of " Shareholder," pub isbed-in the Herald and reprinted in your journal last nh>ht, wilJi I hope, be a caution, to the manager of...this mine. It seems strange that so many reports are, sent flying about, such as.the "horse" business, by which the■: sharemarket is affected. I bare before now advocated, the establishment of a school of mines in the colQuy, by the Government, such as is established in Victoria, by which mine managers should be judged as to their qualifications and knowledge of the technical terms in mining, as well> as aa average amount of ability to write and spell. I contend that a man cannot be a good mine manager who has not some ability to study mining in all its branches, instead of working by the rule of thumb, as is generally the case here. Now, a man who has been brought up a v trucker," which is nothing but manual labor, is unfit to be a mine manager, and such are generally mere puppets in the hands of others to do as they are told.—l am, &c, , gHABEHOLDEB.
