APPOINTMENT OF HOUSE SURGEON TO THE HOSPITAL.

(To the Editor of the Evening Stab.) Sib,—ln the letter of " Citizen," although there is much to be commended in his ideas of justice to the medical staff, and in raising the Institution to the satisfaction" of the public, yet he has forgotten one of the most important points, viz., that there must always be a responsible person in charge, answerable to the committee for the time being. It is true " Citizen" says in the latter part of his letter, •• leave the arrangements' to the medical staff," but he seems ignorant of the fact that the committee is the governing body, and will not forego their rights. The only way to obviate this would be for the four medical men each in turn to take charge of the Hospital for three months, the others giving their services as Honorary Surgeons in the meantime. I admit that in every society or club on the Thames, a member has the privilege of choosing his medical attendant, and it does seem I hard that when he is reduced to so critical a state as to find it necessary to go into the Hospital this boon should be denied him. I agreo with "Citizen" in the main, but before any alteration can be made a special meeting of the committee must be called to alter the present rules.. —I am, Ac., A Ratbpater.
