MOANATARI.

Mr C.. J, Stone, one of the directors,, accompanied by the manager, Mr Comer, paid a visittofripspection to the mine this morning, and on the whole was pleased with the state of the mine. A shot was fired in the mullock in the. winze, which had the effect of slightly, shattering the reef and exposed tb.view a good show of gold. No stone.was: broken down, however, and as yet it is undecided when the next breaking down will take place. A,-shot fired -in the^middle stope over the winze had the effect of bringing down some 401bs or sOlbs of good specimens. A?7iftle gold has alsb'iieen obtained from Wallis'leader. . The-following is a copy of to-day's bulletin :—" A shot has-broken part of reef in^nlw, winze. . Good gold showing. Beef not yet broken down., 401bs specimens frcm intermediate stope No. 9 reef.—-Robebt Comeb."

The following is a copy of Mr Comer's weekly report to the directors submitted at yesterday's meeting of the directorate : —" 80 feet level, south-east, cross-cut, No. 9 reef: Sinking of new winze is suspended, and we have started driving east from the bottom of the winze at a depth of 27 feet. This drive is now in 6 feet on the south side, but none of the reef has yet -been broken down. It carries a good, hard hanging-wall, with copper and mundic, and good colours of gold showing on the outside, and looking in every way similar to the wall accompanying the run of gold in the level above. The last breaking down in the new'winze of 1| tons, including picked stone, has given 32902S of amalgam, and gold still shows in the bottom. The stopes on No. 9 reef in the back of 80 feet level are now 150' feet long, the lode averaging from three to six feet thick.* The eastern stope is low grade stuff, but as it is extended eastward or nearer the slide it will be of improved quality. The intermediate stope is now worked to the western side of the shot of gold, and the show of gold and mineral now in the reef is as rich as when the last stope 'was brought along. It will require a few days to^work another stope home to this run. The western stope is .giving good crushing stuff, and, a fair quantity of good specimens are broken occasionally. I believe, there-is a second shot of gold in this direction, as there was. a good payable reef driven over--at the tunnel level with similar results to those how being met with in this stope. The drive west, on No." 9 reef has 2| feet thickness of payable stuff. Wallis's leader is look-, ing very well, with gold showing in different places. . Occasionally from lOlbs to 201bs of specimens are broken. Heldt's reef in the drive east is one foot thick of payable crushing stuff. There is no change in the stopes on the cross-leader. North-west cross-cut, AH Nations leader : the : winze; sinking below • the 80-feet level is now down 23 feet. The leader is one foot thick, and shows gold freely. This winze, .when communicated with the new 150 feet level, will open up good profitable blocks of ground. The drive east on this leader is now looking more encouraging, the leader being a foot thick, and payable stuff. The new winding rope is fixed on 'spiders,' and the water all baled out. Sinking the shaft will be resumed on Monday morning ; and during the coming week it will be down the required depth for well. In the past fortnight 450 tons of-quartz have been reduced for a yield of 2,0030zs retorted gold, or an average of 4ozs 9dwts per ton. The mine throughout is looking iWelly and the machinery is all in good working order.,—Kobebt Comkb, Manager.^ . ■ ■ ... .-'■ ■■•.:- : ■Ji -:>:V -:-

Dunn and party, the tributers, working the old Redan section of the: company's ground finished a crushing of 26 tons at the Kuranui mill yesterday and banked as the result 26503$ of gold. Whisker and ]>arty retorted last evening after a crushing of general stuff and specimens and obtained the satisfactory yield of 118ozs 3dwts gold.
