Thames Borough Council.
A meeting of the Borough Council was held at the Council' Chambers at 11 o'clock this morning. There were present —His Worship the Mayor, Crsßenshaw, Macnab, Kilgour, Wilson, Butt and Gibbon's. . JJINUTJCS. The minutes of .the previous meeting were read'over and confirmed. bepoet'of fobeman of works. The report of the Foreman of Works was favorable to the granting of permission to construct a tramway" over the Moanatairi creek road to Messrs Newdick and party. Cr Renshaw moved that permission be granted for- a term of three years at a rental of Is per year, the Council to reserve the right* of removing it if it obstructed the public traffic. • . This was carried. TENDEBS FOB NIGHT SOIL. Tenders from Messrs Cribb , and Buckley,-for the purchase of refuse and night soil were received, and Mr Cribb's tender was accepted. Cr Renshaw brought up the case of the man Power, who had been committed to the Asylum. He said he had a wife and a large family who were totally unprovided for, and thought that it was within their province to contribute something from the Borough fund for the wife and her children'a support. He suggested that £3 be handed to the Benevolent Society for the purpose of paying per 10s per week for the present. ■ ' ~ Cr Kilgour said that though he quite appreciated Cr Benshaw'a benevolent motives, yet he thought they could not do it. Power himself had, been committed to the Lunatic" "Asylum, and they only had power to support an aged, sick, or infirm person. • \ Several other Councillors expressed themselves to be of the same opinion, and the matter dropped. , Cr Macnab drew the attention of the Council to the dangerous state of the culvert near the E|u&eranga School through some boards being removed. I It was resolved to refer the matter to
( the Works Committee with power to act. This was all the business.
