■ An inqueit was commenced this afternoon re the death of Margaret Mclntyre, aged seventeen years, who had been employed as a servant in the family of Mrs M. F. Eeid. The evidence of the girl's parents showed that the girl was in good health when she entered Mrs Reid's service, and that when they visited her a few hours before death they found her lying on a mattress in. a very neglected condition. They state /that Mrs Beid offered them first £5.00 and afterwards £20C3 to say nothing about the matter. Messrs Stout and Gillies are watching the investigation on behalf of Mrs Eeid, and will seek to establish that the girl died from
diarrhoea
' The University Council to-day sold their present buildings to the Colonial Bank for £27,000.
This day. ;■ The inquest on the girl Mclntyre has been adjourned - till Tuesday. Dr. Batchjelder says that the immediate cause of death was congestion of the lungs oaused by exposure in a cold room while suffering from inflammation of the bowels/ and in a state of starvation.
