WAITBiAUBI,
{ .aW .1 ,-^aq*s.-» m., This day; I WuiSKkUßi G.M.Co.—An important discovery hirtjeelf made in this company's ground, during the week, namely, that two distinct' reefs have been found to exist at the lover level. The discovery was made bj^ starting to drive^on the main, reef towards the No. 2.w»ze, when it was soon found that a V&g ttf quartz 8 feet thick was striking"awiy to the west and north 6f the main'^re'ef. The new reef carries fome 'splendid-looking quartz, and from fh«-strike- it- ought to be picked up in either-the Washington or Bank of Ireland jeaws, so I would advise shareholders in those claims to start operation as soon as possible. No change of any importance to notice about the 160 feet level; it is looking us well as ever. Same can be said about the crushing.
Shannon and Fergus G.M.Co.—In the drive going -south the No. 2 leader looks well, and carries some fine looking stone heavily charged with minerals, and the men at work inform me colors of gold ace to be seen going nori.h. The country is pretty hard, and the lode is rather pinched, but the stone looks well, aad 1 as there is a large Row of water coming from the faqe there is no doubt but what a gofter channel of country is a short distance ahead.
] -United Kingdom.—The work going on iv this mine consists of a cross-cut being driven from the adit on the No. 2 lode. A drive has also been started on -the opposite side of the gully, which will pick up the No. 2 cross-lode from the Welcome ground, and if carried far enough ahead will come in for a low-level for that company.
Pebsevebance G. M. Co.—A change has taken place in the low level the last couple of days, and the face of drive is intersected in all directions with stringers and small leaders composed of nice looking stone, and full of mundic and base metals ; the country is also getting softer if anything,' and the manager fully expects to cut a good body of stone before long.
Mr Bayldon, surveyor, is busily engaged making a mining survey of the Homeward Bound, Keystone,"'Young Colonial, and Sovereign for the purpose of selecting a site to start a low level that will be available for alt the above-men-tioned companies. If the long talked of amalgamation takes place it will be a good thing for shareholders and. the district at large, as it has be<;n proved by the Waitekauri that the best gold is at the lowest depth worked upon,' and it would only be money wasted to put in any more surface drives, and if the companies dou't combine they can't afford to do anything else.
