London, May 14. In the House of Commons, Sir, Stafford Northcote said although Russia might blockade and invade Egypt, the policy of the-Government would be strict neutrality. There was no reason why we should fight when the road to India remained untouched. Mr Gladstone's motion was rejected by 354 to 223. Sir E. Wolfe's amendment, declaring that the House declines to entertain any resolution hampering the Government without indicating an alternative policy, was carried without division.
