AUCKLAND.
This day. Father liice lectures here in aid of Limerick (?) Cathedral. His preaching attracts large crowds to the Cathedral. He is likely to be appointed permanent VicarGeneral. The tidal wave was experienced in Mercury Bay. The cutter Start and yacht Zodiac were driven high and dry, but were got off. The tide rose to an alarming height. It is estimated the tide ran from eight to ten knots. The only damage ashore was the destruction of a fence. At the Presbytery to-day the Bey J. Hill stated that he felt it a duty to accept the call from Lyttelton. beveral members paid a high compliment to Mr Hill, and said though the Thames would sustain a loss, the church would benefit generally, and the difficulties which had arisen at Lyttelton would be shortly removed. -A resolution was carried tbat he be inducted at once.
