PUMPING ASSOCIATION.

Ihe last fortnightly measuring up of the nortlvcross-cut at the 640 feet level showed that this, work had reached the length of J895 feet, 35 feet having been put in during the fortnight. During the last 30 or 40 feet the ground has got hard, and now the work is proceeding through a bar of sandstone. It is hoped that this obstacle to the rapid extension of the cross-cut will soon be removed, though as yet there are no indications of the country getting softer.
