PIAKO.
Yesterday a contract for sinking tie engine shaft a distance of 80 feet for the opening out of a new level was let at thi price of £10 per foot. This is a very important undertaking, as not only will it facilitate the drainage of other mines in the vicinity and enable them to sink their shafts, but it will greatly benefit the Piako mine, -as if much more time was wasted there might have been a delay wbich might have necessitated the stoppage of the battery, and even now a short delay may take place between the opening of the new level and the exhaustion of the present one. At the battery the crushing is looking well. During the last week, or so thd crushing for the comf^iKy was only proceeding with 30 head of stampers, 10 head being used on the Queen of Beauty stuff. There was nothing fresh to report in the mine this morning.
Wilton and party, the tributers, com-pleted-their crushing-to-day for the yield of 1290zs gold.
