KUMERA.
This day.
The new rush on the north side of the Tereniakau is attracting a deal of attention throughout the district. There are about 700 people on the ground.. The country is pegged off on all sides for a considerable distance, and. it is reported already that twenty parties are on payable gold. From 300 to4oo persons crossand recross the rirer daily from Kumara. Strong dissatisfaction is expressed at the delay and the expense of the tolls for crossing the river by the punt. Last night a public meeting was held, when it was unanimously resolved that the County Councils of Grey and Hokitika be petitioned to construct a bridge over the Tcremakan, and in the meantime purchase the punt and throw it open as a ferry free to the public.
