PIAKO.

During the past two days the appearance of the.reef in the bottom level to seaward has been slowly improving, and it- has now opened out to about 25 feet thick. During last night several pounds of stone showing, a considerable quantity of gold—in fact some of them'were rich, enough to be called specimens—were obtained from the lode, while good colors are to be seen in the face. No stuff has been sent up from the JSo.- 5 level since last week, but it has been proved that the quality of the stone is not inferior to that taken fiom the bottom level, though of course the quantity is .defective. At the' battery the crushing is looking about the same.
