NAPIER.
Wednesday.
There was an unprecedentedly high tide last night. As the wind blew heavily from the south there was a very high sea, and the breakers came over the beach,
through the houses, and into the streets f knocking down fences and carrying away small out-houses. A good deal of alarm was felt, but no very serious injury was done ; only that one house on tho beach was knocked over at the Spit. No injury was done to the harbour works.
