The City West Election yesterday resulted in favor of Dr, Wallis by a large majority. The numbers at the close of the Poll were : Wallis, 470 ; Graham, 268; Majority for Dr. Wallis, 211. .An Alexandra telegram of yesterday's date says:—Douglas McLean, Sir Donald's son, was at Kopua yesterday,: where he met Manuhiri Te Keinga, and other chiefs, who held a tangi over him, expressing thejr grief for Sir Donald's death. Mr McLean left here this morning for Te Awomutu. Tawhiao and family had left Kopua previous to his arrival there, for which Manuhiri. expressed regret. The Army and Navy Gazette of Feb. 17th throws light on the cablegram recently published respecting the dismissal of Capt. Stevens of the Barracouta, as follows :—" A court of inquiry will be held on Captain Stevens, respecting the Samoa affair, in which several seamen and , marines were killed and wounded." It would thus appear that Capt. Stevens was dismissed for the needless loss of so many men, and not merely for his action in removing Colonel Steinberger.
