CALEDONIAN.
Driving on the Otago, or more correctly the No. 2 reef is proceeding, and the contractors have already put in about 100 feet, which is about one-third of the contract. Yesterday a little gold was seen on the footwall side in a branch leader, which on being followed was proved to carry gold on the edge of the reef. r Some very passable stones were broken out. This discovery, though it is small in itselj, shows that there is gold in; this level, and in probably a payable'quantity. It is the first gokL seen in the level, though a 1 little has been obtained before on crushing the quartz. The point at present being worked is about 40 feet above the No. 1 level of the Caledonian shaft. The t.ibuters « o
