THE Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR O'CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi. TUESDAY, MAY 1, 1877.

What may be expected frequently to happen should the Kusso-Turkish war continue for any length of time occurred during the last few days. Yesterday we were supplied with a cable message: of the 27th instant respecting the commencement of hostilities, and decidedly favorable to the Russian side. To-day a message is published giving a version differ- | ing materially, and putting a different I complexion on the state of affairs—in fact the first victory is now said to be with the Turks instead of the Russians, and it is stated positively that the Russians have nowhere crossed the Danube. We are inclined to give preference in belief to the latest account, although as emanating from the same source — Keuter's Telegram Agency —the mistake is rather inexplicable, the management of the Agency not being in the habit of sending news on the authority of any but its own correspondents. It is well known that in the late FrancoPrussian War,: in. some of the greatest battles victory was claimed by both sides, and hence conflicting opinions arose. It is very probable that similar instances of contradictory reports will arise during the war now begun, and from the same cause.
