The Eesident Magistrate has allowed the petition of the Hon. R. Russell and others against the election of Sydney Johnson 7 for Waipukurau riding. The Waipawa County election .is therefore void.
Barry, the gold prospector, is here at present, after a sojourn in the Taupo country extending over nine months. He is very reticent as to his tour. He has brought specimens of gold down, and submitted them to the Minister of Public Works.. . ... Captain Kussell, member for Napier, in a letter states his intention of returning to New Zealand in the May Suez boat. A letter has been received from Mr Tanner, from England, in which it is clearly stated that the Rev. Mr Robinson, over whom dissension was caused in the Church of England, never received priest's orders at Home. This information has caused great comment.
Eecent news from England has caused great depression among wool growers, as it is feared war will considerably injure the May sales.
