LEAHY GOLDMINING COMPANY.
A meeting of directors was held yester* day to consider-tenders for driving in the company's ground, and the .tender of James and party at lls 6d per foot was accepted. This company's ground is situated on what is called the Waitekauri Spur, and it was here that the pro«Mctors used to sluice for gold, the spur being highly auriferous in quartz ~nd washing dirt. A small gully near was known as Specimen Gully. From the prospects obtained on the surface it is confidently expected that a 'good pay*' able reef will be opened by this drive, and the shareholders have .great confidence in its turning out well.
High Time.— A husband, having arrayed himself elaborately wiih gaiters, game-bag, aud gun, accompanied 'by his faithful dog, goes forth to hunt, but shoots nothing. Impossible to return empty-handed, to the house, he stops at the market, and buys a hare, which he presented.to his wife. The hare was terribly high—not alone in price. " Ah!" said his wife, with a sniff, "so you killed ft. You were right, It'was high time."
