MOANATAIRI.

In the vicinity of the No. 9 reef a large number of men are employed. The cross drive towards Heldt's section is being pushed ahear, and opening out to some extent has ibeen done. New leaders averaging from 2 to 4 inches in width have been intersected, and gold is frequently seen in them. The dirt from this portion of the mine is proving to be of a payable quality. The winze being sunk on the main reef has not been deepened much during the last day or two, the country being rather hard ; it is now about 12 or 13 feet deep, and pretty wide, being the width of the drive. ■ A blast put in this morning on the western side brought down some good quartz, gold being visible in several stones notwithfi»n.ding that they were much: blackened by the effect of the blast. A good supply of crushing stuff is still being obtained from the stopes,j as also from the drive on Wallace's leader. The battery was started again last evening at 6 o'clock, and is working satisfactorily. Whisker and party, tributers in the Moanatairi, have some good prospects. In the drive, from which several capital crushingsvhave at various times been obtained, the reef has now been lost. It would seem that a slide has occurred just where it disappeared, and the party have driven a few feet to the left with the view of picking, it up again, but failed to do so, and are now turning to the right.: Nearer the mouth "of the drive a rise nas been commenced, and good inducements have already been found for continuing to rise, several pounds of very rich specimens having been secured.
