Henry -Driver was charged with a breach of section 5, part 7, By-law No/1, of the Borough of Thames, by setting fire to inflammable matter in the open air, on the 23rd instant. « ' Defendant pleaded guilty, but said he had been away from home at the time.

He believed that they had been boiling tar, and it had caught fire. It was put out in about two minutes, and the fire was in the middle of the yard. It was the first time it itad beeu done, and had he been at home it would not have been done. Mr. Sub-Inspector Bullcn said he had no wish to press the charge. Case dismissed. . : A LUM ALOWE. James Clarkson was charged with a breach of the Borough By-law No. 1, by allowing the chimney of the house occupied by him in Pollen street, Thames, to take fire on the 21st instant. Defendant through his wife pleaded guilty. Fined 10s and costs. ASSAULT. William McDowell was charged with assaulting James A. Gould on the 22nd instant. ' . There being no appearance of either party the case was struck out. Court adjourned. ■■■■„'
