WELLINGTON.

This day,

Southerton of the All Englaud, in a letter io a private person at Marton, gives his opinion of the best men to'represent an intercolonial cricket contest. He says at such places as Taranaki, Nelson and Greymouth he could not find anything to recommend,, except Morse at Greymouth, if hard up for a lelt-handed howler. At Invercargill there is only lieade good, at both bowling and batting; ho thinks Cross and Ansoa the only ones at: Wellington who would be. likely toj hold their own on a good wicket. The. best at Auckland are Robinson, Tracy (? Yates) and Buckland. The first can bat and bowl, the second is not very stylish, but his regulation is likely at any time to pull him throiigh f" the third is a fast bowler but no bat. Dunedin has good bats in Dixon, Nicholls, Millington, Fulton and Spring, the latter being the best wicket-keeper he saw in the Colony—Dixon, Millihgton and Everest also being good bowlers. He has no doubt Christchurch must form the nucleus of any team, as there he found the best all round cricket; Cotfe, Leach and Stevens being first class bats, with plenty others, good bowlers too, like Frith, Sweete and Ashby, good fieldsmen, and best longstop in Alpe. He considers them the club, of the colony. They only want a; better wicket to play on.
