A supplementary outward San Francisco mail has been despatched by the Government steamer Hinemoa. It consisted of 1680 letters, 44 book packets, and 1120 Newspapers, which, added to the 'first instalment forwarded by the liotorua on Saturday, makes the total outward mail this month 4810 letters, 132 book packets, and 3180 newspapers.
One of the fire brigades are endeavouring to induce the Government to connect the new Government Jiuijdings with their engine house by telegraph wires. Ifc is expected that the Tliorndon reclamation is now far enough advanced to be completed within the .twelve mouths, or by the end of the present year.
A telegram has been received here from Greymouth statiug that George Jackson is prepared to scull Heara, or find a man in the Grey Talley to do so, for a sum of from £50 to £250, and asking if the match can be made. A reply has been ■telegraphed that fleam is prepared to row Japkson for £250, allowing him £25 for expenses to come to Wellington to row the match.
The following is the text of "Atlas's " paragraph in the World:—"I understand that the Prince of Wales has fully determined to carry out the project of ;paying a visit to Australia and New Zealand, which the success and pleasure of his Indian tour first led him to conceive. Ihe subject has not formally taken shape, but I believe the Prime Minister is cognizant of and approves of the projected visit to the antipodes." This day. The Australia, with the London mails of the 10th March, left .'Frisco on March 29th.
The City of New York, with the March New Zealand mails, arrived at 'Frisco en April 6th.
