THEATRE ROYAL.
This place of amusornent was opened on Saturday night for a single performance by the Chicago Minstrels, a company of ten or eleven performers who arrived on the previous day from Gisborne, en route for Auckland. The company, whose reputation its a clever troupe had preceded them, did not belie their character/ for they placed an excellent programme before their audience (an excellent one considering the state of the weather),and gave every satisfaction. Theirpart singing in the :chair business and in other parts of-the programme was, in our opinion, the choicest feature in the entertainmentv but judging by the laughter and applause which: accompanied Mr Wallace's singing, the triple dances and the comic sketches Of the troupe, these features were most heartily enjoyed. It is the intention Of the Chicago Minstrels to visit the Thames on a future, occasion, when they will probably have a successful season. In the South they have : received high praise at the hands of the Press, and the liberal support from the public.
